Franziska Lauenstein

I am an Assistant Professor for Strategy at the KLU Hamburg. Before, I was an Assitant Professor and Postdoc at the Strategic Organization Design Unit at the University of Southern Denmark. I got my Ph.D. in Management from the University of Hamburg. I have been a visiting researcher at University Pompeu Fabra and Bocconi University.

I am interested in designing better organizations. To succeed, organizations need employees who challenge the status quo. Rather than focusing on individual characteristics or skills, I explore how structure, tools and systems can encourage people to seize new opportunities. My research examines, for example, how flatter organizational structures, collaboration with AI or increasing data availability can help individuals to thrive.

My research field is strategy and organizaiton design. I am intersted in individual decision-making within organizations. A good way to study the influences of changes in organization design on individual decision-making are experiments.

  • My theoretical home is the Behavioral Theory of the Firm within the Carnegie School. Together with Jose I co-organize the CSOL Academy.

  • I got elected as Rep-at-Large for the SMS Behavrioal Strategy IG. I got elected together wit Jose and Jerry, so what else to wish for?!
